We recommend that you DO NOTHING! The beauty of copper is in its rich, natural patina. If you must retain the bright copper finish, you can apply a commercial polish for copper following the directions on the container. Polish can be made at home by moistening salt with vinegar or lemon juice to make a paste. This paste can be gently rubbed on the surface to obtain a bright finish. For a dull finish, form a paste of powdered limestone and olive oil and gently rub onto surface. After polishing decorative items, spray with lacquer to preserve color if desired. NOTE: If you have copper collectibles that have a patina finish they should only be cleaned with a very soft cloth such as flannel. Use a gentle detergent such as Ivory and warm water, rinsing afterwards. Never use ammonia based products or any type of degreaser. Removing finger prints: There are a number of ways to remove finger prints. The commercial polish, Tarnex does a good job. Using the finest steel wool they sell (0000) also works well. If your star is going outside, I wouldn't worry about it. Nature will take over! THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN YOUR COPPER: Order a can of Citra-Gleam Copper Cleaner.
